Passion.com is pretty much your basic sex personals site, nothing special. Just to give you straight guys an idea of what you're up against on a site like this, for my state (MA), there were about 117,000 listings of men seeking women, and just over 8,000 listings of women seeking men. Those are pretty sucky odds.
They don't allow you to do much for free. You can set up your profile, but you can't even view others' profiles--only their photos and basic stats (age, sex, location). You can't email anyone, except those few who have paid for you to be able to do so--but why would you want to email them if you can’t even read their profiles first?
Features include online chat, the option to create a hotlist of your favorite members, "who's online now" and "who's viewing me?", and your standard search mechanisms.
They have a reduced rate for automatic renewal, and a break for purchasing more months at once. You can also pay $20/mo. to allow free subscribers to contact you (usually they may not, only browse. You also have the option of paying more (around $5-9 per mo.) to highlight your listing.
This site is run by the same folks who run Adult FriendFinder.
I interviewed T.A., a 42-year-old hetero man in HI. He found the prospects "poor at best. One was clearly (in retrospect) a pay web sex site--the email address/name of the spam received and first names of potential date/partner corresponded quite precisely. No other prospects seemed available other than for online chat through the passion.com system, which was, to be fair, quite good."
"The site was slow overall, with excess graphics hindering the experience. The administrative interface (for changing membership options, etc.) was somewhat clunky, although effective. Several options showed significant imagination. Recently, they have added a 'ConfirmID' option, which sounds moderately useful for thinning out the spammers, but real people still send spam."
T.A. imagines that Passion.com could potentially be better in a place with more population than Hawaii. "The site has great potential, but needs better policing to clean up the sex spam crowd, and has poor procedures in place for reporting said spammers."
